Sophomore Convocation Ceremony

Guest Tickets - Order by September 17, 2021

For families visiting Stanford, each student may invite up to two guests to join us at this in-person event held outdoors. Tickets are required for all guests 3 years and older, and must be reserved in advance. The deadline to reserve tickets is Friday, September 17.  We do not plan to offer tickets on the day of the event. Tickets are complimentary; there is no cost to attend. Only guests will need tickets; please do not order a ticket for your student.

Tickets are non-transferrable - each student may only invite two guests.

This event and event policies are subject to change in order to comply with university policies and county and state public health guidelines. We will notify ticket holders by email if things change due to the pandemic, as we may receive further guidance from state, county, and university officials. Thank you for your understanding.

Stanford Visitor Policy

To protect the health and safety of our Stanford community, all guests must register for this ticketed event in advance and be in compliance with the Stanford Visitor Policy:

  1. All visitors coming to Stanford must meet at least one of two criteria:
    A) Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19; or
    B) Receive a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to arrival onsite. 
  2. On the day of the event, all guests will be required to complete the Stanford Visitor: Daily COVID-19 Health Attestation Form. All guests will be asked to attest that they have screened themselves prior to arriving, do not have COVID-like symptoms, and are not in a restricted status requiring isolation or quarantine.
  3. We will ask all guests to wear a Guest Wristband for entry to Convocation and to any other events on this day, including lunch in the dining hall. To pick up a wristband, guests will need to bring photo ID and will be asked to show proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival onsite. 
    • COVID-19 vaccines accepted are those fully approved or approved for emergency use authorization by the FDA: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen, and WHO: AstraZeneca/Oxford, Sinopharm, Sinovac-CoronoVac.
    • COVID-19 tests accepted: PCR tests and LAMP tests.

Print Tickets

Once your ticket order is complete, you will receive two emails from The second email, "Print At Home Tickets", will contain your tickets to the event, which you will need for entry.

If you do not receive both confirmations, please contact to inquire about the status of your registration.

Day of Event

Prior to arrival, all guests must complete the Stanford Visitor: Daily COVID-19 Health Attestation Form. Any visitor unable to attest to the conditions on the form cannot come to campus. For questions, please email


Free parking for the day is provided in the following lots. Your student will receive a printable Parking Pass to place in your car.

  • Galvez Parking Lot, located near Frost Amphitheater, and
  • Underground Residence Parking Garages: Wilbur Field Lot, Roble Field Lot, and Manzanita Field Lot.


Doors will open at 9:00 a.m.

At the entrance, please show your event tickets and wear your Guest Wristband. Wristbands may be picked up at the Family Welcome Booth in White Plaza from September 11-18, or at the event venue when doors open.

Face Coverings

Face coverings are required* for people who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19. They are strongly encouraged for everyone attending this outdoor event. It is possible that public health guidelines may change. We ask all guests to please bring a face covering.

Clear Bag Policy

Frost Amphitheater has a clear bag policy that will be strictly enforced. Only small clutch bags (no larger than 5”x8”), non-clear diaper bags, and clear plastic bags that do not exceed 12"W x 12"H x 6"D will be allowed inside the venue (one bag per person). Please visit Frost’s What to Bring page for a full list of prohibited items.


Chairs in Frost Amphitheater will be arranged side-by-side at full-capacity and will not be socially-distanced. Seating is first-come, first-served. Students will be seated in the lower bowl. Guests will be seated in the upper bowl. The weather may be hot and sunny. We recommend that you dress casually and bring a hat.

The closest disability parking to Frost is located on Lasuen Street near Roth Way. The accessible entrance (step-free route to seating area) to Frost is via the Lasuen Gate near the corner of Lasuen Street and Roth Way. Wheelchair seating and a limited mobility seating area is available and ushers will be available to assist as needed once inside the Lasuen Gate.

Galvez Gate Accessibility Note

The Galvez Gate is not on an accessible route for those using wheelchairs/mobility devices and/or have limited mobility.

Sophomore Family Welcome at The Arbor in Tresidder Memorial Union

September 16, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m
September 17, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Come by the Arbor in Tresidder Memorial Union and grab some drinks and refreshments, meet some other Sophomore Families, and mingle with key Stanford leaders including the Vice Provost for Student Affairs - Susie Brubaker-Cole and the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education - Sarah Church and many others.  All attendees will need a guest orange wristband from the Family Welcome Booth to attend this informal welcome event.

Family Welcome Booth & Guest Wristband Pick-up at White Plaza

September 11-18, 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Stop by the Family Welcome Booth in White Plaza to pick up the Students’ Guide to Stanford campus map and Scavenger Hunt instructions. You can also enter a drawing to win free prizes from the Stanford Bookstore. Members of the Stanford Parents’ Club may be present to greet families and answer any questions.

Guest Wristbands

If you will be attending any events on campus, including Convocation and lunch in the dining hall and the Sophomore Family Welcome, you will need to wear a Guest Wristband, indicating that you have completed the Stanford Visitor Daily Health Attestation Form and are in compliance with the Stanford Visitor Policy. To receive a wristband, guests may be asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival onsite. Wristbands may also be picked up at the Family Welcome Booth in White Plaza.
